Angel Cards

These original tempera paintings were reproduced as one of a kind greeting cards. Inspiration was the artist's sister, Kay Poursine, performing Bharata Natyam, the classical dance of South India. Hindu and Buddhist literature both speak of Apsaras, celestial dancers who dance only for the gods in heaven. Apsara is the sanskrit word for a dancer who performs in the high astral realms of the universe. She is depicted in temple paintings and sculpture and references to her date back to early B.C. India. The Hindu Apsara is usually shown in a dance position and her hands are most often in dance gestures called hastas.

Each card is 5" x 7" and has its own greeting printed inside.

Angel 1 "And, lo, an angel of the Lord came upon them saying, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Angel 2 "And, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was."

Angel 3 "Hark the herald angel sings; Glory to the new born King"

Angel 4 "And the angel said unto them, fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people"
