Introducing

Suzanne Poursine Massion

Suzanne is a juried member of Oil Painters of America and the Illinois Artisans Program. She is also a member of the DuPage Art League. Her paintings and drawings have won many awards and are collected by private, corporate, and public patrons throughout the world. She works mainly in oil but you will see examples of pen and ink, graphite, and tempera on this website. Suzanne also accepts commissions and welcomes new clients.

You will see open spaces, tall grass prairies, wetlands, pastures, and farms come to life in her art work. These paintings are windows into a serene but changing world. A landscape artist who loves the rural Midwest, Suzanne presents these “Images of the Heartland”.

Welcome!

I paint what I see around me. My paintings are impressions of farmland and open spaces, places that are home to me. Sadly, buildings burn, open space is developed and paved over. Sometimes I feel I’m in a race to save a disappearing treasure. When the land changes, my paintings will remind you of the way it once was.

Driving the back roads through tall grass prairies and farm land, I will see something that makes me stop. I set up my easel to paint en Plein Aire, the challenging but rewarding action of painting out in the open. An old barn, a grassy trail, a country road, a quiet river, all these subjects find their way onto my canvas.

Natural light, shadows, the contrast of cool and warm color form the basis of impressionism - and the basis of my art. The rest is hard work and a driving need to “get it right” on canvas.

I feel blessed to have this talent. As you browse through this site and decide to acquire some of my artwork, know that you are contributing to my continuing efforts of land conservation. I use a portion of my sales in support of "The Northern Kane County Wild Ones" and "The Conservation Foundation".
