Impressionism, what is it? It is a way of seeing what natural light does to local color. Is the light cold or warm? Are the shadows cold or warm? In my view, the temperature of the light is opposite the temperature of the cast shadows. Simply put, everything stems from the light.

"I look out over a stand of pine trees that have seeded themselves. You can see the small "volunteer" trees. A field of corn does the same thing, volunteering a sprout here and there in the soybean field the following year. Snow blankets the land. The hour before sunset has turned the sky pink and orange."
