Impressionism, what is it? It is a way of seeing what natural light does to local color. Is the light cold or warm? Are the shadows cold or warm? In my view, the temperature of the light is opposite the temperature of the cast shadows. Simply put, everything stems from the light.

"I see the lacy branches of an ancient tree, stark contrast against the rich green foliage bordering this slow-moving river. The long thin branches seem like fingers leaning over the water, on guard against some threat. 'Halt' they seem to say. 'Go no further, we are watching you'. In fact, the dead snag is a sanctuary for owls, woodpeckers, squirrels, and possibly that high nesting bird, the red-tailed hawk."
